TAIPEI, Taiwan — The Taiwan Network Information Center (TWNIC) has officially announced that the inaugural "Internet Week 2026" will take place from May 12 to May 15, 2026. Initiated by TWNIC, this landmark event marks the first time multiple major domestic and international forums and community agendas have been integrated to create an impartial, neutral, and open platform for cross-sector exchange. The event will offer a comprehensive exploration of core issues including Internet infrastructure, digital resilience, and technology governance, aiming to deepen the connection between Taiwan and the international Internet community through public-private partnership and multi-stakeholder dialogue.
Building an Open and Diverse Governance Platform through Global Integration
In the face of cross-domain challenges posed by the digital economy, content governance, and frontier technologies like AI, single-dimensional approaches are no longer sufficient to address the rapid changes in the global Internet environment. Consequently, the inaugural Internet Week 2026 features an unprecedentedly comprehensive framework. The four-day series of events integrates several key domestic and international forums and more than 20 thematic sessions. The assembly will not only explore Internet infrastructure and technical development but also extend its core focus to policy regulation, social trust, and international cooperation, aiming to build an Internet governance dialogue platform with global vision and substantive influence.
This initiative has successfully bridged various domestic and international institutions and communities, encompassing stakeholders from government agencies, international organizations, and technical communities. Together, they will address critical issues such as digital content governance, social risk response, and Internet resilience from the perspectives of policy regulation, trust governance, infrastructure maintenance, and security protection.
TWNIC stated that the participation of the public sector, international organizations, and technical communities in Internet Week 2026 serves as a concrete realization of the multi-stakeholder governance model. This not only highlights Taiwan's capacity to integrate regional and global public issues but also establishes an open, neutral, and diverse space for global Internet governance exchange.
Focusing on AI Trust, Digital Resilience, and New Challenges in International Governance
Internet Week 2026 will bring together a broad international perspective and local practical concerns. To lead forward-looking dialogues, the conference has curated high-level keynote speeches. Lee-Feng Chien, Innovative Economy Advisor to the Executive Yuan’s Economic Development Council, is expected to share his observations and insights on the current status and future trajectory of Taiwan's digital economy driven by AI. From an international perspective, the conference has invited pioneers in global governance, including Steve Crocker, CEO of Edgemoor Research Institute, and Jeremy Godfrey, Executive Chairperson of the Irish Media Commission (Coimisiún na Meán).
Through the visionary perspectives of these prominent domestic and international experts, the conference will delve into infrastructure topics such as Registration Data Access, DNS security and resilience, and IP resource governance. Furthermore, the event will address four major challenges facing contemporary digital society:
- Digital Trust and Risk Governance in the AI Era: Exploring trust risks when AI is integrated into finance, e-commerce, and public services, and how to establish content governance mechanisms defined by transparency and accountability.
- Digital Resilience and International Regulatory Trends: Focusing on the NIS2 Directive (Network and Information Security Directive) and its subsequent developments, discussing digital environment resilience and corporate adaptation.
- Network Resilience and Modern Protocol Trends: Focusing on ISP deployment, IP resource governance, and the impact of protocol upgrades on performance, security, and Internet resilience.
- Diverse and Inclusive Digital Governance: Featuring a special "Tech Women" session to explore how to substantively incorporate female perspectives and diverse experiences into digital decision-making.
TWNIC emphasized that the Internet is no longer merely technical infrastructure; it is inextricably linked to democratic governance, industrial innovation, and social trust. Internet Week 2026 aims to foster cross-sector consensus through open, rational, and professionally grounded dialogue, continuing to strengthen Taiwan's visibility on the international stage.
